Structural Designer

My client, a global packaging company is expanding their design team in Angus and are now recruiting a Structural Designer. You will be part of the creative team designing innovative and creative solutions to their customers needs.

Main duties of the role include;

  • Production of prototypes and samples to satisfy a customer brief or design concept
  • Manage designated technical projects to ensure all relevant timelines and critical path targets are met or exceeded
  • Attend meetings with Customers and /or Suppliers where required, either on site or off site
  • Work closely with Sales to develop strong, integrated customer relationships.
  • Develop and implement Ways of Working to ensure we meet all customer targets.
  • Work seamlessly with all other internal functions to ensure efficient use of resource and systems
  • Ensure that information for all jobs created is entered into the database (Meteo) accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Ensure that the responsibilities and actions documented and required by the NPD process are followed at all times
  • Ensure all information needed to create a sample is available before starting a job
  • Maintain CAD administration and ensure information stored is accurate and up to date

The successful candidate must have;

  • Product or design related qualification
  • Minimum of 3 years construction designer experience (gained within the print packaging industry would be advantageous)
  • Working knowledge of Artios CAD.
  • Working knowledge of sample cutting tables & their uses.
  • Familiarity with the different material specifications available & their handling characteristics.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing & customer assembly processes.
  • Experience of managing and developing relationships with multiple customers
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Good organisational skills and disciplined approach
  • Self-motivation with the ability to think individually with well-reasoned decision making qualities
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced & high volume manufacturing environment
  • Ability to react quickly and adapt to change on a daily basis
  • Flexibility in both thought and action, offering proactive, creative solutions and improvements
  • Ability to prioritise workload, use own initiative, work within a team as well as work on your own.
